Independent Businesses in the Cardinal Hotel Building
What businesses are located in the Cardinal Hotel building?
The Cardinal Hotel shares its historic downtown Palo Alto building with several independently operated local businesses. The hotel itself does not operate a restaurant, but guests have two restaurants just outside the hotel entrance, along with a longtime barber shop, a contemporary art gallery, and an optometry practice.
- Osteria — An independently operated Palo Alto restaurant serving Tuscan-inspired Italian cuisine. Osteria has been a downtown local favorite since 1986 and has an entrance just outside the Cardinal Hotel. Cardinal Hotel
- Bistro Maxine — A French-inspired café and bistro specializing in crêpes, espresso drinks, and a European café atmosphere. Bistro Maxine opened in downtown Palo Alto in 2006 and is located at 548 Ramona Street, just outside the hotel. Bistro Maxine
- Cardinal Barber Shop — The barber shop has been part of the building since 1925, and guests still reach it through the Cardinal Hotel lobby. Today, longtime barber Gerardo Macareño continues a tradition that is nearly as old as the hotel itself.
- Qualia Contemporary Art — A contemporary art gallery at 229 Hamilton Avenue. Qualia moved to this location in 2023 and presents exhibitions by established and emerging contemporary artists.
- Lee Optometrics — A family optometry practice and eyewear boutique located at 231 Hamilton Avenue. Lee Optometrics has served downtown Palo Alto since 2006, offering eye examinations, contact lens services, and a selection of contemporary eyewear.
